AR SAVES provides stroke neurologist expertise in 54 rural hospitals that otherwise would not have access in order to assess and treat acute stroke patients in the emergency department setting. 


The Outreach Nurse Educator is assigned a region of the state to provide guidance, and is responsible for training and performing improvement initiatives to hospitals participating in the AR SAVES program with the ultimate goal being to improve the outcome of stroke patients. S/He builds relationships for community engagement and maintenance of the program and ensures that treatment protocols are up-to-date and implemented consistently.  


  1. Participates in outreach activities for the AR SAVES telemedicine program and projects. 
  2. Responsible for site visits with assigned hospitals to review AHA AIS treatment time targets and identify opportunities for improvement within that facility.
  3. Conducts quality reviews of live tele-stroke consult calls and monthly mocks and provides feedback to the hospital Nurse Facilitator for areas of improvement with the NIHSS assessment and the administration of alteplase. 
  4. Maintains AR SAVES stroke training and clinical protocols keeping all current with best practices.
  5. Evaluates the AR SAVES program to address identified deficiencies/learning needs within AR SAVES hospitals and telemedicine facilities. 
  6. Understands and assures the use of appropriate AR SAVES clinical education program initiatives and imparts this knowledge to hospital faculty/staff across Arkansas as appropriate.
  7. Identifies barriers or concerns which interfere with the learning process and suggest alternatives for resolution; consults directly with AR SAVES Director of Operations. 
  8. Assists assigned hospitals with required community outreach initiatives as needed. 
  9. May perform other duties as needed.


Minimum Qualifications:

  • Current Arkansas RN license plus three (3) years of clinical experience
  • Must be knowledgeable in medical terminology and technology based equipment
  • Excellent customer relations skills


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Clinical experience specific to stroke care or experience working with hospitals to implement and maintain a patient care service or master’s degree in nursing, health administration or education
  • Experience in academic medical setting, staff education or training
  • Understanding of regulatory and compliance organizations/agencies
  • Understands and abides by confidentiality policies
